Magnetic Paint

I've had a lot of people ask me questions about the paint I used to make my magnetic quiet book. So I thought I'd post a picture of the can so everyone knows what it is and what it looks like. I found it at Michael's in the paint section. At mine, it was hidden on the bottom shelf. I actually had to ask a sales associate if they carried magnetic paint. She happily pointed me right to it.

The paint itself is dark grey and really thick. It needs to be stirred about every sixty seconds to keep the lead from separating. I used a foam brush to apply the paint to the backs of any pages where I wanted things to stick. It was tricky to keep the pages from wrinkling, but laminating helped smooth any lumpy parts out.

Hopefully that takes the mystery out of this mystery paint!

  1. Wow, now this is amazing!
A magnetic painting.... When I was just recovering of the chalk paint, that also amazed me like crazy; now there's magnetic one, lol...
    What a great world! lol

  2. Thank you so much for posting a picture. Now I should be able to find it. (I hope) The spray paint does not work! unless you are going to use that surface directly. Thanks again!

  3. Thanks for the picture. I'm sure it will help greatly!

  4. Does it really contain lead or iron?

  5. Just ran across this idea and am excited to try it but I have a few questions. Did you just use regular paper or card stock? Also do you use that paint on the back of the main sheet and the little pieces you want to stick to it? How expensive was the paint?

  6. Amy-

Definitely use cardstock. Painting makes the cardstock get all wavy. Normal paper could not handle it well at all.

You paint the back of the main sheets and place a piece of sheet magnet to each small piece.

It has been quite a while since I bought the paint. If I remember right it was between $15-20, but I used a coupon since I bought it at Michaels. You can go to their website and print one off before you head to the store. And it is kind of hard to find, so you may have to ask for help.

    Hope that helps!

  7. hi, i was just wondering did you laminate 2 magnetic pages back to back or is each page separate so when you turn the page you see the painted magnetic side? thanks!

  8. Roxy,

I laminated the two pages back to back so that there are no empty sides on any pages.

    Thanks for stopping by!
