Yard Sale Loot

Today was a great yard sale day! I brought my friend Megan along with me and we found some real treasures. Here's what I came home with:

Lamp-$3: Isn't it sweet? I think I'll change out the ribbon and repaint the flower-shaped pull to match my daughter's room.
Candlestick pedestal-50 cents: I've been looking for one just this size. I have big plans for it. Just wait and see.
Black and white bowl-$1: This one was kind of a splurge. (I know, how cheapskate-ish to feel like a whole buck was a "splurge"). But I LOVE it too much to have left it behind. It'll look great in my kitchen somewhere and will help me add to the black/white/green thing I've got going.
Three apothecary jars-$2: One of these had ancient candy canes in them. The lady told me I could have the candy for free. Yeah, um....nasty! Those went straight into the garbage. One of them is actually plastic, which I didn't realize until I got it home. Oh well. The other two are the perfect size to go with one jar I already have. I'll show you where they end up when I get them the way I want!
And the best deal of the day...
Brown shower curtain-25 cents: Yeah baby! When I asked how much the guy wanted and he said 25 cents, I quietly gave him my quarter and waited until I was out of earshot to squeal in delight. I wanted to do a cartwheel! The fabric is's got little pleated stripes and is so shiny and luxurious. It may or may not be used as a shower curtain, but for a quarter? Oh, the possibilities!!!
Of course I got a bunch of children's clothes too. Didn't pay more than 50 cents for any one piece and I got some really nice things. All in all, it was a fantastic day!
*Sigh* I love garage sales.

  1. Great finds! We have that same lamp, but we got it new 5 years ago from Target. You definitely got a better deal!

  2. Ok- Next time I want to be invited! :) You make everything seem like a treasure!

  3. great finds!!!! :) CONGRATS!!!

  4. I love it! I love the lamp it will make a fun project for sure! I got a pink baby tutu yesterday on my garage sale adventures! It was 25 cents! It's going to make some fun pictures. I also got a 3 drawer storage thing for $3! Storage things are so expensive so I always like finding those!

  5. I never find anything good at yard sales, maybe I don't go early enough. I have a question about your magnetic book for kids. For your hot/cold page did you exacto knife the pockets like you did the envelopes? I want to make one this summer and I would love to look at yours before you guys take off. If it's already packed away that's okay. I just might have a ton of questions for you as I go along. Wow, sorry this is quite a story I've posted here.

  6. I just came across your blog & love it! I too am a "poor" grad student-wife, trying to decorate on a budget & just started my own little blog.
Anyway, I love what you've done with these great yard sale finds, it made me really excited for going garage saleing this weekend! Thanks for the inspiration!!
