Bias Tape Pumpkin Pillow

I've never been one to switch out my throw pillows for the seasons, but I decided this year to give it a try. Why? I don't know. Just felt like it. Maybe because I am excited about Fall?

Anyway, here's the first pillow:

I cut a square piece of fabric to the size I needed to cover the pillow, then I grabbed some orange bias fold tape. I found the center of the fabric, opened the bias tape up so I could see the center fold line, then started sewing it down in a spiral. I didn't pin or anything, just kind of freehanded it. It took a lot of stopping and adjusting to get the tape to lay and turn they way I wanted, so if you make one, be patient! Just remember, it doesn't have to be perfect. The texture and the uneven, irregular shape add to the charm. Here's a close-up:

The finishing touches were a brown piping stem and green ric-rac leaves sewn onto the top. Then I sewed it into a pillow cover that will be easy to get off when the season is over.

I have a few more pillows to go and when they are all done, I'll show you them all together.
