These gorgeous flowers are made from satin. They’re inexpensive and easy to make and can be used for hair bows, brooches or anything else you can dream up!
I’m a huge fan of these flowers. Because they’re made of satin, they’re shiny and have a bit of elegance to them. I’ve made several into hair bows for my daughters and we always get complimented on them.
Let me walk you through the written tutorial. If you’d rather watch a video tutorial, scroll to the bottom of the post.
Satin Fabric Flower Written Tutorial
1. You will need polyester satin fabric. It’s sometimes called costume fabric. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby. It’s super cheap and it comes in lots of fun colors. You could buy as little as 1/4 yard and have enough to make several flowers—they really don’t take much fabric at all!
4. Using a lighter (the long-handled kind work much better than traditional lighters), melt all the outside edges and down each slit until they shrivel and you like the way they look.
8. Add a center embellishment if desired. Beads, gems, and buttons are cute, but be creative– anything goes!
The circular flower is made the same way, except you cut concentric circles and melt their edges (no slits needed). So easy!

yea! I have been wondering what type of material it was that made these awesome flowers. And yea for Hobby Lobby, looks like I'll need a hot gun finally too. Thanks so much for this tutorial.

Did you have any trouble with burning the edges? I had some white satin on hand and tried it, but you can see the burnt part.
Thanks!

White satin is tricky… try holding the flame further away and melting it more gradually. If that doesn’t work, then I guess you’ll have to try a different color of fabric.
