This whimsical floral ballerina sign is an inexpensive craft you can easily make to decorate the walls of a little girls room or nursery.
Wall art can be so expensive at stores. That’s why I like to make my own. I recently created this adorable ballerina themed art as a decoration for my girls’ shared bedroom and just LOVE the way it turned out. If you’d like to craft one too, you can follow along with these step-by-step directions.

Step 1: Begin by painting a canvas or wood plaque with craft paint in the color of your choice. The color I used is DecoArt Turquoise.
Step 2: Load vinyl onto your Silhouette cutting mat.
Open the free cut file in Silhouette Design Studio and scale it to the right size to fit on your canvas or board. Change the cut settings to vinyl and cut.
Step 4: Transfer the ballerina shape to the sign. Make sure the paint is completely dry before adding the vinyl or it won’t stick very well.
Step 5: Remove the silk flowers from their stems and glue them onto the sign to create the ballerina’s skirt. I arranged my flowers first to make sure I liked the way they looked, then I glued them in place.
And that’s all it takes to create this cute ballerina sign!
Here are five variations of this project that would also be fun to try:
- Use silk leaves to make the skirt of the ballerina.
- Create several different ballerina signs in different colors to make a gallery wall.
- Use tulle to create a fabric skirt for the ballerina.
- Make rolled paper flowers for the skirt instead of using silk flowers.
- Scale the ballerina larger so just her skirt and feet are showing on the canvas.
